Acting since the early '80s, LeGros found roles in numerous films
before landing a guest-starring role on the successful television
drama, ER. He began his current role on the hit FOX comedy
Ally McBeal in the show's third season.
What did the "new guy" think of his first
day on Ally McBeal? James Le Gros told fans online!
Yahoomc: A big, warm welcome to James
LeGros!! fox_james_legros: I am here now!
markioke asks: how do you like
working with calista and the rest fox_james_legros: Oh, it's a wonderful
experience...always challenging and very funny.
manolis_varnassinger asks: james
in what other shows or movies did you appear in before you play on ally
mc beal? fox_james_legros: In a lot of independent
films, among these are Drugstore Cowboy, Living in Oblivion, Myth of
Fingerprints, My New Gun, many others.
langtreelil asks: if you weren't
an actor, what would you like to do for a living? fox_james_legros: I'f I wasn't an
actor I'd like to be a gentleman farmer.
langtreelil asks: what role
have you always wanted to play and why? fox_james_legros: I suppose the
role I've wanted to play but haven't as yet, is the brother Andre in
Chekhov's The Three Sisters.
manolis_varnassinger asks: james
did you take any lessons on how to play this role a lawyer and how would
you describe the character you play fox_james_legros: No I didn't take
any lessons. fox_james_legros: I have played
lawyers in the past. fox_james_legros: And with this
character I've been sort of making it up as I go along.
JMart20944 asks: Although they
tried to resurrect Billy's character in the end, he was probably the
weak link of the show. What will be the difference in your character
than Billy's? fox_james_legros: I disagree, I
don' t think he was the weak link in the show. I think he will be sorely
missed. fox_james_legros: And I won't be
replacing him as much as creating something independent and new.
countrygirl_6919 asks: Does
he understand about the die-hard ally fans being upset about Billy's
death? fox_james_legros: Yeah, I understand
that, I would be upset too.
REAL_MAN_35 asks: do you guys
think you will play any charity softball games this summer? fox_james_legros: It's not in my
immediate plans.
shadow_of_the_dawn asks: What's
it like working with David Kelley? fox_james_legros: Working with David
Kelly is an experience like no other. fox_james_legros: He always provides
abundant material to work with. fox_james_legros: However, he's
not around the set all that much. fox_james_legros: So, you basically
get the scripts and try to deliver the performance as faithful to the
next as possible.
JMart20944 asks: Did Fox come
to you for the part, or did you have to audition? fox_james_legros: Well, to be honest,
I don't know what Fox's role in all of this was. fox_james_legros: I got a phone
call from my agent that Mr. Kelley wanted to meet me. fox_james_legros: So I drove down
to his offices, we talked for about 45 minutes, and later that day they
asked me if I wanted to join the cast. fox_james_legros: I don't think
anything had been written at that point.
CalistaFan1 asks: Were you a
fan of Ally McBeal before you got on the show? fox_james_legros: Oh, yes, very
much.
markioke asks: do i see a future
between his character and ally? fox_james_legros: Well, given the
unpredictability of the show, virtually anything is possible. A future
with Ally, a tete to tete with John Cage, who knows? fox_james_legros: I could be giving
tap dancing lessons in the next episode. Who knows?
squeegee875 asks: How do you
relate to your character? fox_james_legros: In all of the
usual and legal ways!
girlie823 asks: how do you keep
a straight face, some of the scenes have me laughing histerically. fox_james_legros: Sometimes I don't. fox_james_legros: And the editor
cuts those parts out.
CalistaFan1 asks: What was it like when
you first met the cast of Ally McBeal? fox_james_legros: It was a little
intimidating. fox_james_legros: Sort of like being
the new kid at school. fox_james_legros: However, they
were very quick to let me know that they were happy about my arrival
and working forward to working with me.
rabid_glove asks: Were you nervious
about jumping from small films to main stream ally mcbeal???? fox_james_legros: Not particularly.
HARKERS8 asks: are you going
to have character flaws that we have not seen yet? fox_james_legros: Probably, I would
imagine, with David there's always some new detail being revealed.
JMart20944 asks: Do you think
that this role in Ally McBeal will boost your career way higher than
whatever you've done so far? fox_james_legros: I have no idea.
caingo1 asks: James what do
you think of your "Theme Song".....? I think it is AWESOME!!!! fox_james_legros: I think it's awesome
too, and anybody who digs Freddie Mercury is a pal of mine.
countrygirl_6919 asks: Are you
prepared for the diehard Ally fans not to like you at first? fox_james_legros: I expect that.
And it's natural. fox_james_legros: And not everybody
is going to love you in this life. That's OK.
manolis_varnassinger asks: i
d like to ask you what do you think of the ally mc beal tv soundrack
and what kind of music do you listen to fox_james_legros: I think Vonda
Shepard is deeply talented. fox_james_legros: And the kind of
music I listen to is everything, so long as it's good.
foxcom_99 asks: How long have you lived in L.A.? Love it, hate it? fox_james_legros: I've lived in LA for a long time. And I would say that I've come to terms with it.
foxcom_99 asks: When is your film "There's
No Fish Food in Heaven" being released and what's it about? fox_james_legros: I don't know when
it's going to be released. fox_james_legros: And it's about,
it's a love story that bridges the boundary of life and death.
forehand95 asks: Hi James. "Floudering"
is still my favorite of your movies. Do you know whatever became of
its writer/director, Peter McCarthy? fox_james_legros: Peter is still
out there trying to hustle up a living just like the rest of us, and
occasionally I talk with him, not that often. fox_james_legros: And thank you
for saying a kind thing about Floundering.
gossamer01 asks: Do you like
to fish, and if so what kind do you like to catch? fox_james_legros: Trout fishing.
Sometimes when the albacore are running.
daphne1899 asks: WHEN DID U START TO TO THINK ABOUT BEING AN ACTOR?....AT WHAT AGE fox_james_legros: As a profession, I guess when I was in my early 20's.
daphne1899 asks: WHAT MOVIE HAVE YOU
TRYED OUT FOR BUT NEVER GOT THE PART fox_james_legros: Most of the things
I've auditioned for, I have not gotten. fox_james_legros: The list goes
into the thousands.
suzy987_123 asks: How different
is this character form other that you have played? fox_james_legros: Well, he's on
television for one. fox_james_legros: And number two,
the clothes are better.
evyy1 asks: You seem to have
a great sense of humor,..were you invovled in comedy before? fox_james_legros: Sometimes, although
not always intentionally.
poke_card_seller asks: Did it
take a while to catch the remote when Calista threw it at your head? fox_james_legros: No, I did it on
the first try. fox_james_legros: That secret will
go to my grave!
suzy987_123 asks: What is the
average number of takes do you usually have to get before the right
one is used? fox_james_legros: 5.
sassigirl21 asks: Hey James-
I like your character on the show and I think you're doing a good job.
Good Luck! fox_james_legros: Thank you, I'll
need all the luck I can get. fox_james_legros: It's not always
necessary to have it, but it's always nice to have around.
madcap1969 asks: Are you listening to any kind of music while answering these questions (if so, what)? fox_james_legros: No, I'm watching the Philadelphia-Charlotte basketball game, it's tied 91-91 with seconds left.
maranfl asks: Do you & cast members
socialize outside of the set, or not?? fox_james_legros: Occasionally.
meshiaw asks: James, did you
think the reaction to you joining the cast would be this passionate/opinionated? fox_james_legros: To be perfect
honest, I haven't really followed what the reaction has been. I've focused
more on what work I've needed to do.
jbatesy asks: who were your
influences growing up? fox_james_legros: Oh, that's a pretty
broad range, and it goes from Harmon Killebrew to Marcel Duchamp. fox_james_legros: And all points
in between.
vivi_dahling asks: Do you think
your character will be making any appearences singing at the club as
the cast members have ? fox_james_legros: Anything is possible
with David Kelley.
JMart20944 asks: How long have
you been acting? Do you think landing this role is a pinnacle of your
career? fox_james_legros: I'd hate to be
peaking at my age! fox_james_legros: And I've been
acting, I turned pro about 18 years ago.
drgoodwell asks: The 3 button
suits your character wears in court are great. Did they make you wear
it or is it your style preference? fox_james_legros: My fashion journey
is a little bit like Blanche Dubois, I'm oft dependent on the kindness
of strangers. fox_james_legros: We have a very
talented costume design and wardrobe department on Ally McBeal, and
I put a great deal of trust in them.
medic_grrl asks: what has been
your greatest asset or greatest fault when it came to auditioning for
parts? fox_james_legros: I guess my greatest
asset...good question...I try to bring something fresh and unexpected. fox_james_legros: And I guess my
shortcoming would be I'm often not talented enough to get the part!
ed82_99 asks: why Ally McBeal?
Why not Broadway or be a guest star on "when Wives attack"? or something... fox_james_legros: They don't pay
as well.
Immature92 asks: If you could
make up the years you'd like to stay on the show how many years would
you stay? fox_james_legros: I wouldn't care
to venture a number. fox_james_legros: However, I'd like
to be there as long as I could be happy.
CalistaFan1 asks: I heard you
like to snowboard. What are some of the places you like to go to snowboard? fox_james_legros: Well, Jackson
Hole. fox_james_legros: Park City. fox_james_legros: Mammoth.
rabid_glove asks: Do you surf
the internet alot? fox_james_legros: Never. fox_james_legros: I just do what
I have to do and leave.
flicknwho asks: Mr LeGros how
difficult is it to do a weekly series as opposed to a feature fox_james_legros: I haven't been
on it that long, so it's hard for me to say exactly. fox_james_legros: One thing that's
different is with a feature, you get a script and you basically just
go out and shoot that script. fox_james_legros: On a series, there
are many little scripts, and you sort of have to figure things out as
you go along.
DiFah asks: Have you been told
the direction of your character? What is expected of you. fox_james_legros: Not really.
catawbasc asks: What was the
most "unexpected" thing you've done at an audition? fox_james_legros: Would have been
to wait two hours to meet with somebody.
drgoodwell asks: They never
show the shoes the guys where on the set. Do all the guys just wear
nike's, when the girls wear the spiked heels? fox_james_legros: Yes, that is correct. fox_james_legros: Sometimes in open
toed sandals.
jbatesy asks: Do you think the
views expressed on the show reflect or influence American society? fox_james_legros: I hope not.
drgoodwell asks: I searched
your name on the web and made 9 hits. How was working with Drew Barrymore
in the movies? fox_james_legros: It's always been
a great experience.' fox_james_legros: And when we work
together again in the future, I'm sure it will just keep getting better.
lisatonn_2000 asks: How far
out do you shoot? fox_james_legros: I don't know what
the lead time is on the show.
JMart20944 asks: With all this
new-found attention ... how is your family taking to all the new celebrity
status, interviews, etc...? fox_james_legros: We are taking
it in stride. fox_james_legros: The important
thing is to not take yourself too seriously.
meowmix26_2000 asks: James,
Ally was pretty tough on you during your debut. Did you do any preparation
for that experience? :) fox_james_legros: Nothing out of
the unusual, sort of the basic actor preparation, just like in the Stanislavsky
book.
shadow_of_the_dawn asks: Is
the set a casual environment, or are you guys all business during production? fox_james_legros: I would say it's
a blend of both.
eroman4 asks: thsi seems to
be quite a departure for you..since most of your film work has been
mostly arthouse/independent film... how do you like the pace of the
show? fox_james_legros: I enjoy the pace
of the show. fox_james_legros: But essentially
it's the same in that you are working with one camera, you have to act
truthfully, and after six hours you get lunch.
langtreelil asks: Living in
Oblivion is one my favorite flicks, would you like to do more independent
films in the future? fox_james_legros: Thank you for
your feelings about Living in Oblivion. And I will always continue to
do independent films. fox_james_legros: In fact I will
do one after the show wraps, on my hiatus.
BlackRaven15 asks: is it really
hectic try to meet the demand of learning your script in such a short
time? fox_james_legros: It's not that
difficult.
missnikkig asks: what would
be your dream character to play? fox_james_legros: The thing about
great dreams is there is something always completely unexpected. fox_james_legros: So that character,
whatever it may be, remains ineffable.
jenomalley asks: James, I think
it's wonderful to see a fresh face. Do you have any input into how your
character is written? fox_james_legros: No, none whatsoever!
catawbasc asks: You mentioned
you were watching the Philly/Charlotte game. Who are you pulling for
and is it over yet. . .ie who won? fox_james_legros: Charlotte won
108-98. In overtime. fox_james_legros: I don't really
have a team, I just love the game. If I had to be one fan, I guess I'm
a Clipper fan, cause it's easy to love a winner.
katieblake asks: what do you
think is in store for your character next year? fox_james_legros: You know what,
I'm dying to know just as much as you are, I have no idea, I wish they'd
tell me.
Yahoomc: James, it's been great
having you here... Yahoomc: Hope we get to chat again
soon! fox_james_legros: Goodbye everybody,
thank you for your patience! And I promise not to stink up the show! Yahoomc: Thanks for being here!
Bye
