Rachael Leigh Cook - August 2, 2000
Rachael Leigh Cook A native of Minnesota, Rachael has made it big in Hollywood. After costarring with Freddie Prinze, Jr. in She's All That, she landed roles in the upcoming films Josie and the Pussycats and Get Carter.

FOX.com Host: Rachael has arrived to chat with us!

Rachael Leigh Cook: Hello everybody!

bunny: What are your current projects?

Rachael Leigh Cook: My current projects. We're in rehearsals, we start shooting the 21st of this month for Josie and the Pussycats for Universal.

Rachael Leigh Cook: It's gonna be great, we have an excellent cast. Tara Reid is the drummer and Rosario Dawson plays bass and Alan Cummings and Parker Posey are, I can't really say what they are...
Rachael Leigh Cook: They're sort of shady record executives.

Juniper: Hi Rachael! I want to know what we can expect from you in the future as far as the big screen...

Rachael Leigh Cook: Coming out next is a film I did in London last year called Blow Dry by the writer of The Full Monty, Simon Beaufoy, and directed by Paddy Breathnach.
Rachael Leigh Cook: That's coming out in I believe late September, and after that Get Carter with Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine and Mickey Rourke.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It's a remake of Michael Caine's 1971 original.
Rachael Leigh Cook: That's coming out I hear October 16th, but could change.

Draftsygirl: Rachael, what's it like to work with Parker Posey? I think she's great!!

Rachael Leigh Cook: She's excellent! I love her. She's what inspired me to start making independent films.
Rachael Leigh Cook: She's wonderful. She's just as cool as you think she'd be.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I met her when I worked for a few days on a film she did called House of Yes three years ago.
Rachael Leigh Cook: She's going to be great. We haven't started working yet. I didn't work with her before because I was playing her as a young girl.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It would be fun to do scenes with her.

TeenFan: That's a great movie! Who do you play in Get Carter? I don't remember a woman in it.

Rachael Leigh Cook: Oh no, it's a remake of the original. It's not out yet. Neither is Blow Dry.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Get Carter comes out I think October 16th. Blow Dry is late September.

TeenFan: Tell us what it's like to be nominated for a Teen Choice Award?

Rachael Leigh Cook: It's really exciting. I wasn't nominated this year. I'm just presenting.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It's a lot of fun. I went last year. Everyone has a good time, support their peers. It's a really fun night.

Easterbunny: Do you know what award you are presenting at Teen Choice? Are you presenting with someone else?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I don't know. I can't wait to find out.

Juniper: What do you think of The Teen Choice Awards? Aren't they really just a popularity contest?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I'm not sure. If people voting on what they like and the majority deciding on what the best thing is, then I guess yes. It's a popularity contest.
Rachael Leigh Cook: But things are popular for a reason.
Rachael Leigh Cook: So, popularity. I don't know. It's not about which movie made the most money, that's for sure.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It's not solely by acclaim or review. It's a popularity contest in the purest sense of the word.

blondie: You won an award last year for Teen Choice, right? Which one?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Freddie and I won Best Love Scene. Rachael Leigh Cook: I was like "Love scene, where was I?"

Duck2001: Was Freddy Prinze, Jr. cool to work with?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Freddie is great. There is not a more down-to-earth actor in this town.

qtpie: Who is the next "Hottie" that you want to work with?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I think I've been though them all. I made a movie with Ryan Phillippe in February called Anti-trust.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Josh Hartnett is in Blow Dry.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I'm trying to think of who's left. I really don't know.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I made a movie last month with Jonathan Rhys-Myers and Shawn Hatosy.
Rachael Leigh Cook: So, in answer to that question, I think Hollywood is pretty much out.

grape: Rachael, have you ever started to REALLY like one of your co-stars?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Yes, and that's all the information I'm going to give out on that subject.

SuperSport: Are you excited to go to the Teen Choice Awards?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Yeah, definitely. I was just going through my closet saying "Oh my God. What am I going to wear?"
Rachael Leigh Cook: A bunch of my friends from Minnesota are going with me.
Rachael Leigh Cook: My date and three of my closest friends.

draftsygirl: Rachael, who will be your date for the Teen Choice Awards?

Baby_Jane: Do you consider yourself a sex symbol or a teen "hottie"?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Nooo. I just walked into one of the cabinets in my kitchen. No, definitely not.
Rachael Leigh Cook: That's going to leave a mark.

grape: Who are you voting for at the Teen Choice Awards?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Hmmm. Let me see. I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I don't really know yet.

Alison: You should wear something not too fancy but not too casual.

Rachael Leigh Cook: I agree.

draftsygirl: Who do you want to meet while you're at the awards show?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I want to know who's gonna be there. I have no idea.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It would be cool to meet No Doubt.

MikeDaddy: Have you ever won any other awards?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I won a "Young Star" Award last year.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I won last year in the Santa Monica Film Festival for a film I did two years ago called The Hi-Line.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Other than that, no, I haven't won anything.

Alison: How many movies have you been in?

Rachael Leigh Cook: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
Rachael Leigh Cook: If you count a mini-series and another TV movie for CBS and one for Showtime, I'll be going into my 20th.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I did four things that went straight to video, two that just kind of bit the dust.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I've been working for a long time. I was 15, so it's five years now.

grape: Rachael, how did you get your start in acting? And how old are you?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I'm 20, the big 2-0...it's pretty weird.
Rachael Leigh Cook: When I was 15 I was doing print work in Minneapolis which is where I'm from, and I got an audition from my print agent that was going to be shooting in the area based on a story by William Carlos Williams set in a tenement in 1930s Baltimore.
Rachael Leigh Cook: And I'm not sure how I got the part, I just sort of said the words.
Rachael Leigh Cook: We all pretty much worked for free. I realized that I loved acting.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Luckily a manager heard about the short film and saw it and asked to meet with me and from that meeting asked me if I wanted to come out to L.A. and give it a try out here.
Rachael Leigh Cook: My first audition was for a film I did called The Babysitter's Club.

Sweetz411: What was your favorite movie to act in?

Rachael Leigh Cook: That's really tough.
Rachael Leigh Cook: It's always tough because sometimes there are great people but there are disasters left and right on the project.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Sometimes there are scary people around, but you love the character and you love the project.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Sometimes the people are great and the story is great, but you're in absolutely miserable conditions, location-wise or weather-wise.
Rachael Leigh Cook: So every project has its ups and downs.

hermione: What is your favorite movie in general?

johnboy: What's your favorite movie of all-time?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Probably either Lawrence of Arabia or This Is Spinal Tap.

Sebastien: Have you ever considered acting in films in France?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I would love to.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I would love to make a film in France. Send me the script.

easterbunny: Is it true you're going to be on Dawson's Creek next season?

Rachael Leigh Cook: No.

TeenFan: What kind of music do you like?

Rachael Leigh Cook: All kinds. All kinds. I like everything from Fugazi to Creedence.

fer_guera: What is your dream character to play?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I would just love to play someone really strong, really strong.
Rachael Leigh Cook: I'm usually cast as a victim of some kind.

fer_guera: Strong in which way?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Emotionally, a character who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go for it.

TeenFan: I'm from Minneapolis! Does it feel weird to go from the Midwest to Hollywood?

Rachael Leigh Cook: Yes, very. I don't miss the winters there though.

FOX.com Host: Unfortunately, Rachael is very busy, so we'll have to say good-bye shortly!

RCL_Fan: Do you have an official homepage? What's the address?

Alison: Do you have a Web site?

Rachael Leigh Cook: I think the official one is down temporarily, but it should be back in a couple of months.
Rachael Leigh Cook: But there are others out there, which I'm grateful for.

fer_guera: Thank you Rachael for your time and I wish I could meet you!

Rachael Leigh Cook: Cool, you guys are cool!

TeenFan: No! Don't go! We love you.

Rachael Leigh Cook: I love you too. See you at the Teen Choice Awards.

FOX.com Host: Thanks so much for being here with us!

Rachael Leigh Cook: Keep chatting, but don't forget to go outside. That's what my dad says: "Go outside! It's a beautiful day!" Here, anyway.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Wear your seatbelts, don't do drugs, don't drink and drive.
Rachael Leigh Cook: Good-bye!
