WHAT IS FUTURAMA?
Matt
Groening, the multiple-Emmy Award-winning creator and executive
producer of The Simpsons, rockets into the next millennium with
his new, visually rich animated series Futurama.
We're not in Springfield anymore. We're in New New York City,
a thousand years from now, and it's like no future you've ever
imagined. Fry (voiced by Billy West) is a 25-year-old pizza delivery
boy whose life is going nowhere. When he accidentally freezes
himself on December 31, 1999, he wakes up 1,000 years in the future
and has a chance to make a fresh start. He goes to work for the
Planet Express Corporation, a futuristic delivery service that
transports packages to all five quadrants of the universe.
His companions include the delivery ship's captain, Leela (voiced
by Katey Sagal), a beautiful one-eyed female alien who kicks some
serious butt (despite her depth-perception problems), and Bender
(voiced by John DiMaggio), a robot with very human flaws including,
but not limited to, drinking, smoking, kleptomania and a penchant
for robot pornography (which consists mainly of circuit diagrams).
